Master Sketch Writing Workshop with Keven McDonald of "Kids in the Hall"
Saturday, December 9, or Sat-Sun Dec 9-10
A sketch comedy legend returns to the Brody! ENROLLMENT ENDS MONDAY!
Kevin McDonald, a founder and star of the seminal TV sketch show, The Kids in the Hall, returns to the Brody for two days of sketch writing workshops and a performance of student work. This is a rare opportunity to work with and learn from one of the top sketch writers and performers of a generation. Kids in the Hall was a TV hit from 1988-1994, and Kevin has gone on to rack up a huge resume of film and TV credits as a writer, actor, and voice artist. Kids in the Hall continue to perform together in numerous reunion shows and tours.
Learn from Kevin the basics of sketch comedy and comedy writing. Then learn the Kids in the Hall method of writing comedy sketches through improv. You’ll spend the day starting from improvised scenes then working with Kevin until each scene has been transformed into a fully developed comedy sketch. 10am-5:30pm. Cost of this workshop is $225.
Up for a more intensive and varied experience? Enroll for the deluxe two-day event! You’ll be given some homework, come back Sunday, and spend the day developing students’ premises into full sketches, which you’ll perform in a show that night at the Brody, hosted by Kevin, who will also perform with the Brody improv ensemble. 10am-5:30pm plus performance at 7:30pm. Cost for the two-day event is $325.
